Store Front by the Gawanus

For this project I was to create a retail space within an existing structure. The architecture style is called “Adaptive Reuse Architecture”. While designing this structure I made it simple and only changed 30% of the exterior façade. This retail space is a coffee shop and an apparel store.

Gawanus Hostel

This project is the next phase of the Store by the Gawanus Project. Here I was to create a Hostel above the the new retail store. The initial design of the hostel was to create a structure that match the style of the neighborhood. The buildings in the surrounding area use materials mainly brick and concrete so I decided to use brick to match the neighborhood. What makes this structure standout are the multiple outdoor decks and stairs used. Since hostels are cheaper alternatives to hotels I wanted all the people to intermingle with one another.
